Phu Quoc (Pearl island) is the largest island in Vietnam and the largest one among 22 islet in theGulf of Thailand. The total area of this island district is 593,05km square (approximately equal to the area of Singapore). Located in the northwest, Duong Dong township is the capital of the island.

Geography

Phu Quoc is 120km away from Rach Gia city and is 45km far from Ha Tien town .In Phu Quoc sea, there are 22 islets; among these, Phu Quoc is the largest (574km square ~ 56,200 ha). Phu Quoc island spreads 50km north to south; its largest part (in the north) is 25km wide. The highest part in the island is Chua mountain (603m). Phu Quoc is built up with a roughly shape and a mountainous ridge of 99 peaks. The seas surrounding Phu Quoc are no more than 10m deep. However, the group of islands in An Thoi seaport is separated from the southern head of Phu Quoc island by a channel of 60m deep.

 

  Climate

 The island's monsoonal sub-equatorial climate is characterized by distinct rainy (June to October) and dry seasons (November to May). The annual rainfall is high averaging 2,879 mm. In the northern mountains up to 4,000 mm have been recorded. April and May are the hottest months with temperature reaching 35 °C. Trips to Phu Quoc can be made all year round, but the best time is dry season when the sky is always sunny, clear and blue.
